About Me

My Name is Rachel Uchizono and I am an artist living in Laguna Beach, California.  I paint Plein Air, which means to paint landscapes on location.  Laguna Beach has a rich tradition of plein air painting.  Many great painters have set up their easel and painted Laguna locations that remain unchanged.  William Wendt, Edger Payne and Hanson Purhuff to name few of the great artists that founded the original Laguna Beach art colony in the 1920's.  My paintings are of canyons, eucalyptus trees and seascapes.  In my studio I paint my stuffed peacock, flowers from my garden and persimmons.  I have exhibited at Studio 7 Gallery in North Laguna for thirteen years and I have been showing at the Sawdust Festival for eleven years.  My online store is Uchizono Gallery where I sell my paintings as I paint them.  I also offer for sale antique jewelry and Native American antiquities.
I have been kind of a loner for the past six years and I decided to write a blog about where I live in Bluebird Canyon.  I love taking pictures and painting and I have decided to find my voice and write about what I do.
