Czech Peacock Lamp & Goats In The Canyon

Driving through the canyon, we saw a herd of  goats!  Fire prevention at it's cutest!
Laguna Canyon Wilderness Park
Having a lovely Saturday antiquing at the Orange Circle in Old Town.
Here is my restoration project. I am going to Bohemian Crystal in downtown Los Angeles to find
the replacements for this extremely damaged Czech peacock lamp.
The garden is looking happy after yesterday's rain.
Picked up these amazingly large delphiniums at the English Garden in Laguna Beach.
Hoping to have time this week to set up a still life.

Laguna Garden Club Annual Tour

The walking tour took place near Bluebird Park, which is where the Mermaid House is located.  Woods Cove is one of the first neighborhoods settled and is still filled with quaint beach cottages, mature trees and small scale newer homes.  Our first stop was the Aloha house.
Some of the gardens meandered and were decadent with their space and rolling lawns.

Here are more Bluebird Canyon stunning views.
I like a combination of wild and controlled planting in the garden.

Frog Town

If I had a choice, I would sleep in a rose, too.
At night the canyon echos with the sound of frogs.
It could be a million frogs.  You would have to hear it to believe it.

My favorite Iris loves to reproduce throughout the garden.  I just move one bulb every year and
a dozen more plants pop up.

Bluebird Canyon Garden (For Now)

I threw some Nasturtium seeds in the dirt last year and they took over a portion of the yard.
If fairies were going to live in the garden I guess this spot would be ideal.
The white wisteria has chosen the neighbors tree in the very upper corner of the property.   The blossoms are so long and smell amazing!
The roses are a deep magenta.

We are cutting back on residential watering.  25% mandatory water reduction.  Meanwhile development continues adding thousands of new homes  and the farmers use 80% of California's water supply to grow alfalfa and almond trees.  Nestle' is buying California's water to sell and  hydraulic fracking continues across the state.  The corruption and stupidity is beyond comprehension.   We need sanity to return to our government.

Chai Tea At The Mermaid House

My Father passed away on Christmas day and I have been too sad to write about
the mermaid house.
Spring is coming and some time has passed.   I am treading carefully.

In the early 1980’s my Indian friend, Kavita Vaswani taught me to make a traditional Chai Masala Tea.
Sadly I have lost touch with Kavita (she is such a lovely person) but I still make Chai tea and think of her.
This is my version, which is non-dairy and avoids overuse of my hands yet still uses traditional ingredients.
Fresh peeled piece of raw root ginger
2 T. whole green cardamom pods
1T. whole cloves
1T. black peppercorns
2 cinnamon sticks
6 cups of water
4 bags Assam tea   (not the finest version)
Honey and/or raw sugar to taste
2 cups of nondairy milk of choice for the hot version
Or Organic Coconut Milk Creamer to taste for the cold version
Preparation:
Combine the first six ingredients in a medium saucepan.  Then bring liquid to a boil and simmer gently.
When the cardamom pods soften, I use a wooden spoon to press the pods against the pot to free the black seeds. After 10 minutes remove from heat.  Add tea bags and steep for 5 minutes.
Discard tea bags.  Add raw sugar and/or honey to taste.
For hot tea:
You may add the nondairy milk of your choice.  Or you can throw caution to the wind
by adding whole milk.   Bring tea to simmer over high heat until the sugar dissolves.
Strain the tea into a pot and serve hot.
For cold tea:
Do not add milk.  After adding sugar, strain the tea into a large pitcher.  After the tea cools
It is delicious served over ice with the coconut milk creamer poured over the top to taste.
Remember, black pepper and cinnamon are natural anti-inflammatories.

Persimmons and Orchid

Beautiful Fall colors!
PAINTINGS BY RACHEL
"Fall Bounty"  36 x 36
My first seasonal painting.  I love Chinese lanterns
Wish me luck today, I am starting a commission.
November is here!  I am so happy to have time to photograph the things I love.  I am looking forward
to Thanksgiving and time with family.  Our family has changed this year with my Mother's passing and my Father being ill.
It makes me appreciate family and close friends so much, its hard to describe the feeling.
My orchid bloomed this year!  I think it loved all the hot weather.  My friend, Rovena says it is good omen.
My persimmon tree has been plentiful.  I have a mystery animal guest and we are taking turns at harvesting them.

Czechoslovakian vase with frog: my newest edition.

My mantle is cluttered with persimmons and ornate glass.
